Embakasi is a residential area located 15 kilometres east of the Central Business District (CBD). The area is dubbed 'Eastlands' due to its positioning from the CBD, and is associated with estates like BuruBuru, Donholm, Komarock and Kayole.
Embakasi is a middle income residential and commercial area that is favoured due to the relatively affordable housing. Other areas that are also famed for having cheaper housing are Kitengela and Ongata Rongai. The neighbourhood is also liked because of its proximity to the CBD and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Additionally, it has a good road network that connects it to central Nairobi using Jogoo Road, Mombasa Road, and Thika Road superhighway using the Southern Bypass and Outer Ring Road. All these roads are well maintained, well lit, and have articulated and well placed entry and exit points.
Also available within this neighbourhood is a railway network that can be accessed from either the Syokimau station or Imara Daima Railway Stations. The train runs at regular intervals during peak hours, which provides for a faster, traffic-free means of commuting in and out of the CBD. The location’s easy and fast access to Africa’s transit hub, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, is a plus and especially for frequent fliers and those working within the airport.

This area is one of the most populated parts of Nairobi city. It is subdivided into four constituencies namely Embakasi North, South, East and West.
