Riruta’s Thriving Property Market : Apartments for Rent
Riruta is a subdivision of Dagoretti constituency that lies approximately 15 kilometers west of Nairobi city center. This green serene neighbourhood that is wedged between Kawangare and Uthiru Ruthimitu is the second most populous portion of Dagoretti. Other constituents include Waithaka, Kenyatta Golf Course, Mutuini and 87. Precious Blood Secondary School is one of the first developments that made the location more known to people. The school has been one of the best performing girl school in the country since its establishment in 1964.
The International Livestock Research Institute, which is a global agricultural research firm, also has its regional base in Riruta. Their presence has greatly improved the neighbourhood’s status in addition to providing multiple economic opportunities to the many residents. Especially those who are professional pastoralists and farmers. Many of the locals and foreigners working in the research organization have opted to live nearby, thus influencing the real estate sector. Several property developers have seized this opportunity and put up numerous apartments and houses for rent and sale which meet very high living standards.
Renting a Flat in Riruta
Many of the housing units in this part of Nairobi are houses that date back to the colonial times. These are mostly homes that are situated within large tracts of farmland. Nevertheless, the past few years have seen an increase in the number of modern flats available. They range from studio apartments to 2 -3 bedroom apartments. Renting a flat quickly became popular as it is cheaper than renting a house, and is ideal for young professionals and small families.
As mentioned before, Riruta is a green neighbourhood. Therefore, most of the apartments for rent overlook beautiful, widespread farm and grazing lands. They also come with constant water supply, ample secure parking, a compound, perimeter wall and 24 hour security guards. The majority of the flats are unfurnished, but are fitted with well-designed shelves, cabinets and wardrobes.
The rent charged in such apartments is as low as KSh 20,000 to as high as KSh 70,000 in 2015. The price variation depends on the number of bedrooms and the indoor and outdoor features the unit comes with e.g swimming pool, jacuzzi, cable TV access and internet connectivity. The rental charge on flats is quite decent considering that the neighbourhood is not too far from Lavington, Kilimani and Kileleshwa.
Regarding social amenities, those within or near Riruta include Junction Mall in Lavington, Tuskys supermarket in Uthiru and many financial and health facilities within the locality and in Kawangware areas.
